Caring for a loved one with a chronic illness or disability is a daily challenge. Family carers often face constant emotional, practical and social demands that deeply affect their lives. To support the person they care for without burning out, they need adaptability, balance and inner resources. In a word: mental resilience.

Building resilience through information, psychoeducation and support reduces stress, prevents mental exhaustion and improves the quality of life of both the carer and the person they care for.

With this in mind, the 3rd Conference “Carers and Mental Resilience” brings together mental health professionals, social policy bodies and carers to discuss how we can strengthen care by caring for the carer first.

What we will discuss

The conference opens with welcome addresses from representatives of the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family and the Municipality of Athens. They will present state initiatives supporting family carers, the place of mental resilience in social policy, and the role of municipalities.

Doctors, psychiatrists and psychologists will then speak about:

  • The burden of care and its consequences, and why mental resilience is a necessity
  • Practical mental health advice for carers
  • Care and self-care as two interacting circles
  • The circles of care: a systemic view of carers’ resilience
