The 10th conference “Caring for Carers” was successfully held on Monday, 22 September 2025, at the French Institute of Greece. The event, also broadcast online, was dedicated to family carers who provide daily support to people living with chronic illness or disability.
The conference opened with welcome remarks by Elena Kountoura, Member of the European Parliament and Elsa Dimopoulou, Psychologist, representing the Region of Attica,
A series of distinguished experts and health professionals then delivered presentations. Areti Efthymiou, PhD, President of the Hellenic Scientific Association for Health Literacy, addressed the importance of health literacy among carers of people with dementia. Christos Prapas from the University of West Attica presented public and community health interventions aimed at empowering carers.
Katialena Sourvinou, Psychologist at the Social Psychiatry Association P. Sakellaropoulos, spoke about psychological support for relatives caring for cancer patients. This was followed by Ourania Liarmakopoulou, Music Therapist, and Psychiatrist Christos Gikas from Sonora, who highlighted the contribution of music therapy in supporting carers.
The conference concluded with the presentation of Christina Dalla, Professor of Pharmacology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and President of the Hellenic Brain Council, who discussed depression among patients and carers, with a focus on gender differences. An open discussion with participants followed.
The event was held under the auspices of the Region of Attica, the Hellenic Psychiatric Association, and the Hellenic Brain Council, with the collaboration of numerous scientific and social organizations.
