Part of the activities of the Greek Carers Network involves organizing informative events with the participation of professionals who address a wide range of topics of interest to the public, especially caregivers of people with chronic illness or disabilities.

EPIONI successfully organized the 6th seminar “Caregivers and Depression” at the Metropolitan College, Akadimias 42, Athens. The event was also broadcast online.

The event was opened with a greeting from Member of the European Parliament, Ms. Elena Kountoura.

The seminar featured esteemed speakers. Christina Dalla, Professor of Pharmacology at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA) and President of the Hellenic Brain Council, spoke about new medications for depression. Psychologist Sophia Drosou discussed the role of child caregivers of parents with depression.

Psychiatrist Dimitris Kontis, Director of the Medical Services at the Attica Psychiatric Hospital, talked about the diagnosis and management of depression in caregivers. Psychologist Marilena Zisi and social worker Konstantina Tsigara shared their experiences supporting caregivers.

Finally, Katerina Sameli, a health psychologist and systemic psychotherapist, conducted a very engaging workshop on caregivers of individuals living with depression.

The seminar was held under the auspices of the Hellenic Psychiatric Association and was organized in collaboration with mental health organizations.
