On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, a successful event was held at the European Parliament Office in Athens, as well as online, in honor of the European Carers’ Day.
Ms. Elvira Forte, Press Officer at the European Parliament Office in Greece, welcomed the participants and highlighted the role of the European Parliament and the importance of supporting vulnerable groups such as informal carers.
The theme of the event was the collaboration between informal carers and healthcare professionals.
The event featured notable speakers, including Ms. Nansia Gatopoulou from the World Health Organization’s Office for Quality of Care and Patient Safety in Athens. Former MEP Mr. Stelios Kympouropoulos spoke about informal carers as the essential link in the healthcare chain.
Ms. Evanthia Sakellari, Associate Professor of Community Health at the University of West Attica, and Mr. Christos Prapas, Lecturer at the same university, discussed the collaboration between informal carers and healthcare professionals and the promotion of community health.
Ms. Claire Champeix, Project & Policy Officer at the European Federation of Eurocarers, addressed the theme of European Carers’ Day 2024 and the EU’s Care Strategy (in English).
Dr. Elizabeth Mesthenaiou, Doctor of Sociology and Researcher, explored the relationship between informal and family carers, state policy, and healthcare professionals.
Evangelia Bista, Co-founder of Kapa3 – PhD(c), MA(c), discussed the burden and quality of life of carers for oncology patients.
The event was held under the auspices of the European Parliament Office in Greece, the Hellenic Psychiatric Association, and the Eurocarers.
