EPIONI, in collaboration with patient associations “The Heart of the Child”, “Skitali”, and the “Association of Heart Patients Officers of the Navy – L.S. and Friends”, organized its 7th conference titled “Support for People with Heart Disease and the Contribution of Their Caregivers”. This significant event took place on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 3:30 PM, coinciding with World Hypertension Day.

The Global HEART Hub endorsed the conference, highlighting its commitment to heart disease awareness and support. The agenda featured distinguished speakers who shared their insights and experiences related to heart disease. Fotios Barkas, MSc, PhD, a pathologist and postdoctoral researcher from the University of Ioannina’s Department of Medicine, discussed guidelines for cardiovascular disease prevention. Antonios Psaroudakis, a retired Commander PN with a BSc in social anthropology and history, delivered a moving personal account titled “I was meant to live”. Konstantinos Makris, a retired Captain PN and war veteran, outlined the efforts of the Association of Heart Diseased Officers of the Navy, Coast Guard, and Friends. Anastasios Milkas, an Interventional Cardiologist at Athens Naval Hospital, talked about non-pharmacological interventions in heart failure treatment and the importance of skilled caregivers. Georgios Georgiopoulos, Assistant Professor of Physiology at the University of Patras Medical School, explained the significance of clinical trials for patients. Lastly, Dr. Elizabeth Mesthenaiou, a Board Member of 50+ Hellas, Dr. in Sociology, and researcher, introduced the platform https://www.careplatform.gr
